“Timor-Leste, so far, has managed to prevent community transmission. But COVID-19 is far from over. As cases continue to rise globally, Timor-Leste remains at risk. IPC is one of the most effective ways to stop the spread of COVID-19. The OpenWHO course on IPC in Tetum is designed to equip health workers with the most current evidence-based practice in IPC implementation,” said Dr Rajesh Pandav, WHO Representative to Timor-Leste.

This course, like all other COVID-19, has been designed by IPC experts from around the world working in both high and low-income settings.

Stopping transmission of COVID-19 requires good infection prevention and control (IPC) practice. IPC interventions such as hand washing, physical distancing and respiratory hygiene, for example, greatly reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

“OpenWHO.org course on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) for COVID 19 is designed to practically educate health workers to be prepared and ready to respond to COVID-19; learn about the infection prevention control interventions that limit human to human transmission; and teach how to identify, isolate and report suspect and confirmed cases,” said Dr Roderico Ofrin, Regional Emergency Director.  “Understanding and practicing the basic IPC principles will not only reduce transmission of COVID-19 but save lives,” added Dr Ofrin.
